Tiger Woods 2009 Demo-First Impressions

August 15th, 2008 | Category: Xbox 360

I was so excited when i saw the Tiger Woods 2009 Demo on the Marketplace. Now then after playing all of the Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf games since 2003 and i have seen the series improve and some stay static, I loved the 07 version and was impressed my the 08 game.

In the 2008 installment we saw the introduction of the “GamerNet” challenges and the addition of Photo game face. All dramatic improvements albeit the “illegitimate” GamerNet uploads using glitching not making the experience fuller.

In this demo you get to play on 3 holes of the “Gary Player” Course in South Africa which is one of 5 new courses in the game.

What stikes me most about the demo is the 3 click meter. I thought that this was a vital part of the 2008 version of the series. The meter this time around is shorter and doesnt give a whole lot in terms of accuracy. I think that EA are trying to get us to use the Analogue Sticks a lot more, I tried it after and i thought that playing the shot this way was better.

In previous games using the Analogue Stick method was not easy as when you play the shots, if you messed up you could not see which part of your swing was wrong. This time you can see the swing in the bottom left corner and it can help as a learning curve.

The commentary this time is not the same, lack of humor makes this a boring play. There are 3 commentators and one of them is a woman and i noticed that she only spoke when putting(Weird?)

When you complete the 3 hole round, you get to see improvements to your stats bit by bit which is a very nice improvement rather than using the mini games to improve them. After you see your improvements there is the new introduction of the Performance Coach. Tiger’s own coach Hank Haney provides you with “drills” in which you do set pieces that gives you a permanent performace boost and a bonus round which will give you a boost in just your next round.

Then you can use a new feature of the game which will see you manualy adjust your clubs. Making your club more powerful will make your club less accurate so a fine balance is needed.

I cannot wait for the full game!!
