Superb news that in Gears of War 2, there will be no host advantage in the multiplayer mode! In the first Gears of War wielding a shotgun with next to no lag produced an unfair advantage in the original game, with connection speeds also responsible for some bizarre chainsawing feats.

Cliffy B made a statement that reads:

“People loved the multiplayer in the first game but they didn’t like the host advantage. They got tired of the shotgun inconsistencies

They didn’t like the randomness of the chainsaw, so we put the chainsaw duel in - may the best man win!”

Chainsaw duels will be activated when you try to saw through someone facing you and also wielding the weapon. Bleszinski says the duel itself will be quick and over before others get a chance to train their sights on you - there is no animation invulnerability this time.

All this is great news and the extra benfit will be the addition of an extra player in each team, making it 5 vs 5!

On Sony’s US Playstation Blog, they have officialy CONFIRMED the v2.40 firmware update for the PS3.

“We’re happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include “XMB” access in-game. The update will also include “trophies,” an exciting new feature that we’ll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements. We’ve talked about some of this previously and know that many of you can’t wait to get your hands on these features. You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly.”

There is no date yet for this but at least it is now official
