Things are looking better for the PlayStation 3 this year
It is no surprise that the launch of the Playstation 3 was poor at least, with the Xbox 360 and the Wii all doing a lot better with games like Gears of War and Super Mario Galaxy.
The high price tag of £350 at launch bundled with no games made things worse for Sony, at that time Microsoft added the knife to Sony and made several price cuts alongside making new versions of its Xbox 360, the Core, Premium and Elite models provided a great choice for the consumer.
Cutting the Hard Drive size down from 60GB to 40GB made the situation more complicated as a ‘no backwards compatability’ stipulation was to make a lot of PS2 and PSOne gamers think twice before splashing the cash!
Only when games like Call of Duty 4, GTA IV and Gran Tourismo 5:Prologue gave PS3 owners something to really look foward to, all this and the fact that Blu-ray won the war against HD-DVD bought Sony a promising start to 2008
It has now been over a year since the PS3 has been out in Europe and the line up of games are impressive over the next few months like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Little Big Planet with the PS3 version of Bioshock coming soon.
Figures show that the Sony PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360 in the UK by 10% during the first 21 weeks of 2008, but Microsoft’s system has been catching up rapidly since Grand Theft Auto IV’s release, according to Chart-Track panel sales.
Dorian Bloch of UK sales monitor Chart-Track told Next-Gen that year-to-date PS3 sales are ten percent ahead of Xbox 360 sales.
Comparing sales of both consoles during the four weeks prior to GTA IV’s launch to sales during the four weeks since its release, 360 sales have risen 47%, compared to an 8%Â increase in PS3 sales.
Pretty neat huh? Keep it up Sony!
Gears of War Gets Revamped before the Sequal comes out!
It is now official, Gears of War will be re-released on the Xbox 360, at a bit lower price but the significant thing is that it will be the ‘definitive’ version of the game of 2006.
There is no doubt that Gears of War is one of(if not) the biggest games ever released on the Xbox 360. We will see a 2 disc edition that will feature the following
Gears of War
• Map Packs 1 & 2
• Theme - ‘Emergence Day’
• Gamer Pics - ‘Gears of War,’ ‘Emergence Day’
Gears of War 2
• Trailers - ‘Duel,’ ‘Assault’
• Theme - ‘Bare Your Teeth’
• Gamer Pics - ‘Crimson Omen’
Also to point out that buy the time that this gets released we will see another patch that gets rid of the terrible map glitching and the shotgun lag.
Definately a game to get

My Interview with “MrPointyHead” Inside Xbox Editor
I was Lucky enough to interview Dan Maher(MrPointyHead) who is the editor for the lovely Inside Xbox we see everyday
So then Danabout tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Dan Maher aka MrPointyHead aka MC Unuzual Stain, I’m 27, based in London and I like gaming, movies, comedy, music, food and the finer things in life.
What got you into gaming?
It’s more who - my mum plonked me on a Pac-Man machine in France when I was 2 and bought me a Spectrum 48K soon after. The rest, as they say, is boring.
What was your first game you ever bought?
With my own money? Probably some budget Speccy game like Advanced Log Simulator (”Absolutely Brilliant” - David Darling)… The first games I owned were Horace Goes Skiing, Scrabble, Survival, Chequered Flag, Chess and one other thing I can’t remember. (’Make a Chip’ according to a quick Google search, but I really don’t remember that one)
What are your favourite games?
Oh gawd - this is in no way comprehensive: Dynamite Dan, R-Type, Parodius, Track & Field, Super Mario Bros. (in all its incarnations save Sunshine) Shinobi, Street Fighter II (again, all incarnations plus the Alpha/Zero series and SF3), Chrono Trigger, Tekken 3, Dance Dance Revolution, Zelda (Link to the Past onwards), Super Metroid (and the Prime series), Final Fantasy VII, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Goldeneye, Frequency, Amplitude, Guitar Hero (not a big fan of GH3 though, something’s not right about it), Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, Bioshock, Katamari Damacy, Taiko no Tatsukin, Daigasso! Band Brothers, Bust-a-Move, Puyo Puyo, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Resident Evils 2 & 4, Call of Duty 4… It just goes on and on and on, so I’ll stop now.
